Chef Adrianne Calvo hosts a dining in the dark event once a month at her restaurant, Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant and Wine Bar, in Miami. When we got to the restaurant – located in a strip mall next to a Goodyear far from the typical trendy restaurants popping up in Miami – the first things we saw were feathered boas, satin gloves, too many candles to count, and servers dressed in cabaret outfits. It was Moulin Rouge meets Vampire Diaries meets Halloween.
Calvo was voted one of the top 10 up-and-coming chefs in the state of Florida and was the youngest president of FCCLA. She competed in a National Pastry Competition held by Johnson & Wales University and received the bronze medal without any formal training. She enrolled at Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts in North Miami in 2002, and entered more than forty national competitions, receiving first place in ten of the competitions and runner-up in all the rest. In 2003, Calvo won Taste Down Under, an Australian culinary competition. Her winning dish was served at a dinner for the United Nations and its ambassadors, making her the youngest person to cook for the United Nations.

In the midst of one of the hottest NBA Finals in recent times, Dwyane Wade proves that he a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the courts. As he is poised for the fight NBA supremacy on the court he is still finds time to gve back to his community, by hosting his 2012 Dwyane Wade Basketball Pro Camp. As we watch the Heat and Dwyane Wade in the NBA finals take on the Oklahoma City Thunder, it is encouraging to know that he also takes the time to participate in mentoring through summer programs such as his All Star Basketball Camp and now teaming up with Celebrity Chef Adrianne Calvo.
Chef Adrianne’s Vineyard Restaurant & Wine Bar is a pleasant surprise. Tucked away in a shopping center in the heart of the Hammocks neighborhood of Miami, one would not expect it to be as nice as it is given its location. With a Martino Tire steps away and new shopping centers minutes away, one could easily miss this restaurant. The restaurant, however, proves to be a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the outside world.
